Scratch, squeak, bark
Natalie’s attention turned away from the gun and to a scratching noise above her head.
As she walked up the stairs, the sound reminded her of the Glis-glis her father had found in the ceiling of their old garage.
“Hello!” she whispered, then lunged at the wardrobe as the scratching resumed, and pulled open the door. There looking up at her with weary eyes was Patch, her eight-year-old Jack Russell. His tail wagged slowly but then realised who he was looking at and began squeaking. The squeaking turned to a bark as he looked beside her.
She stood up but before she could turn round, a heavy object struck her head and she dropped to the floor.
The Glis-glis is true, by the way. 🙂
